Sunday school is so valuable to the church. A growing church will have other programs that have value like youth programs, revival meetings, music programs, children’s clubs, but without Sunday School, we will have a difficult time building for the future of our church. Here are some advantages of Sunday School.
1. There is an evangelistic influence on the neighborhood.
If done properly Sunday School can have a great impact on our community.
Acts 5:28 “Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine…”
Acts 5:42 “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”
This involves organized visitation, every Sunday school class visiting those who should be in its class. This is very important in building your class. It is mandatory that every absentee be contacted. They need the Bible lesson we are giving them. When you visit in the home of a child look for their parents and take the opportunity to witness to them.
2. There is doctrinal stability in the church.
As we teach systematically through the Bible we are teaching our students some of the great doctrines of the Bible. Someone said that “doctrine is the glue that holds the church together.”
3. There is total church growth.
Think about this…we have about 26 Sunday school classes. If each class were to grow by one student per quarter… we would have added 104 people to our Sunday school and ultimately our church will grow. Please join me in praying that God would allow you as a Sunday school teacher to grow by one each quarter.
4. There is missionary influence around the world. Because we as teachers are encouraging our students to live a dedicated life for Christ and obey His commandments, our students cannot deny the Great Commission…which is to take the gospel around the world. Ultimately the obligation of home and foreign missions will be felt in Sunday School. Students will respond by praying, giving, and going into all the world. We know that Missions involves more that crossing the oceans; it involves reaching our Jerusalem at home as well.
